"E hele me ka pu'olo: Make every person, place, or condition better than you left it." - Mary Kawena Pukui

In 2017, while serving as a student assistant for the Educational Opportunity Center–a federally funded TRiO program at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College campus–Kanaloa discovered his passion for helping students.

Throughout his journey at EOC, Kanaloa helped countless students with navigating the college enrollment and financial aid process. While serving as a student assistant for EOC, Kanaloa's biggest accomplishment involved giving two distinct group presentations at the 2019 WESTOP Regional Conference on the topic of "How Our Strategic Partnerships Created a New Way of Recruiting."

One of the greatest legacies Kanaloa and his team left for the next educational leaders of EOC, was securing a $2.1 million grant that serves the 2021-2026 project year. Kanaloa has continued his passion for serving students and works as the Program Coordinator for the Ēlama & Hilo One program at Hawaiʻi Community College–Pālamanui Campus.
